Is Coffee Beneficial for Your Health?

Coffee is a common and much-loved beverage especially in the United States and is a close competitor to tea around the globe. From home brew to the favorite coffee shop frape or iced coffee that many millennials flaunt in unique tumblers matching their nails, there are many diverse ways to enjoy the not-so-typical cup ‘o joe. But is coffee a fad that should stay? After all, coffee was once considered carcinogenic by the World Health Organization.

The WHO has changed their stance after recent studies have revealed that coffee is beneficial to our health. There are many benefits listed on the American heart association’s website, including a regular daily cup of coffee assisting in preventing Type 2 Diabetes and a lower chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Lower mortality rates along with better heart heath in women is also noted.

According to fullcoffeeroast.com, “One of the reasons coffee is more popular than tea in America dates back to the Revolutionary War when people threw boxes of tea overboard during the Boston Tea Party. So, it became more patriotic to drink coffee over tea. Around 85% of Americans have at least one cup of coffee at home every day, with more than half of Americans picking coffee over any other drink”.

Surprisingly this may be a major reason as to why Americans are more coffee drinkers than tea drinkers, along with countries including Sweden, Brazil, Argentina, and Germany. Unlike countries like Ireland, the United Kingdom, and China who are predominantly tea drinkers. Tea as we already know can have amazing health benefits if natural herbs are used, and clearly the coffee bean can as well. What’s added to your coffee however is very important to mention as well when having your health in mind, since too much added and over-processed sugars and dairy can add a higher calorie count and can create different health risk factors.

I personally think coffee can be excellent for one’s wellbeing but can create issues if overindulged and is highly addictive to a lot of people. I like using coffee to help me stay on track and have a great workout, along with its weight loss benefits. Looking at the data it appears coffee is beneficial in moderation and can help improve overall health.
